Congratulations, you've landed a new job! This is an exciting time filled with new adventures and opportunities, but it's also a time when you need to be extra vigilant about your online safety.

As a new employee, you might be unaware of the potential cyber threats that can target you (yes, brand-new-you-to-the-company are a target!) during your onboarding process. Scammers are waiting to take advantage of your vulnerability, so it's important to take steps to protect yourself and the company from potential cyberattacks.

Below, are some quick tips of new employee security tips to help you stay safe and secure during your onboarding process to start your new job with confidence and peace of mind!

What Not To Do As A New Employee

Don't Take A Photo With Your Badge

...and post it on social media. Cyber criminals can clone it, change the photo and pretend to be you.

Don't Post Videos of "A Day At The Company"

The office space is full of confidential information. By recording the office, or even your desk, it's like allowing criminals inside the company walls.

Don't Share Your Password

...with anyone! Not even the IT department. No one should know your password besides you.

Don't Buy Gift Cards

This is a common scam! Just ask this new intern who almost got scammed but was saved at the last minute by speaking with his manager. Bottom line: no will ask you to secretly buy gift cards for everyone.

What TO DO As a New Employee

Do Be Aware of Scam Emails From Someone In  The Management Team

Because you still don't know many people, you are more likely to follow direction from someone who pretends to be an executive.

Do Turn On Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor authentication, OR MFA, adds another security layer to the login process, reducing the chances of your account getting hacked.

Do Meet Your Team

If you know your team, supervisors, and executives, you will be able to go to them to verify any "phishy" communication. And if you haven't had a chance to meet them yet, speak with your manager about anything you're uncertain of, first.

Keep these tips in mind as you start your new job and you'll be off to a good and safe start - much success on your new job!
